Once upon a time there was a place: Hotel Costes, and its music guru: Stéphane Pompougnac. Two names definitely linked to each other, as the music lovers all over the world have identified the place to its famous series of compilations “mixed by Stéphane Pompougnac”.
In Paris, Stéphane started out at Café Costes, at Queen, at Privilège, at Diable des Lombards, and then moved on to Les Bains, where he encountered Claude Challes, who broadened his music scope. And then one day he met up again with Jean-Louis Costes, who asked him to mix music at his hotel restaurant. This was back in 1997. Little by little, Stéphane started leaving his musical mark at Hotel Costes.
The customers, hooked into his universe, asked him about his music and his mixing. This sparked the idea of a compilation in order to spread in the world the spirit of the Hôtel Costes, a mythic place where baroque is woven into avant-garde, where at any moment the muffled mood might go electric.
Today, the Hotel Costes have already spun round the earth, drawing more than two millions passengers aboard this ship of Parisian nights, mesmerized by the stories told by Stéphane Pompougnac. He now looks at his trajectory with humour, feeling that this whirlwind is a little to much. He gets away now and then from the waves of hype by wooing beautiful women, who are a constant inspiration for him, especially for his producing and composing.
He doesn’t want to get pegged under the heading of “DJ lounge mixer”. That would be a far too narrow way of grasping what he’s about. Stéphane Pompougnac is indeed a fulfil musician, composing and producing his own songs as well as he can mix and producing compilations.

More On This Album

Bambu Brothers is the new project by Dub Gabriel and Multi-Media Mercenary Kerac. Dub Gabriel is no stranger to Dub, World and Electronic music. As a member of Qaballa Steppers,Baraka Orchestra, and Samsara Soundsystem, in addition to his successful solo albums, he has proven himself as a leader in this hybrid genre. He has performed around the world–from the United Nations in New York to Opera Houses in Berlin—and has been featured in numerous publications including Billboard, XLR8R, Paste, Interview, Global Rhythm, and Wire. His latest solo album, “Bass Jihad”(Azra Records), entered the CMJ World Music Radio Charts in the top 10 and remained there for over 2 months. Kerac is a professional photographer, DJ and producer. A self-proclaimed citizen of the world, he was born in New Zealand, is of Lebanese descent, and has called New York home for the past decade. Kerac’s music is heavily influenced by his nomadic lifestyle. He has spent over fifteen years traveling the arid expanses of North Africa and the Middle East, the mountains, jungles and archipelagos of South East Asia and India, as well as the ethnic enclaves of Jamaica and Latin America. His photographs have been featured in numerous magazines including Conde Nast Traveler, Islands and Men’s Journal. Kerac was a resident DJ at New York’s Kush Lounge, and also appeared on Dub Gabriel’s last solo album, Bass Jihad . Together as Bambu Brothers they bring together Middle Eastern, Indian and African traditions with Dub Sensibility, Brooklyn Back Bone and vintage keys such as Moogs, Clav’s, B3’s, MS-20’s and others to inspire you to shake your ass, even if you’re not sure what your listening to. Put the CD in and turn it up, as the Bambu Brothers invite you to listen!
